Enhancing Communication: X Platform Prepares to Introduce DM Editing and Other Features
X, the microblogging platform under Elon Musk's ownership, has been steadily introducing a variety of new features since his acquisition in 2022 when it was still known as Twitter. The latest potential addition to X's features could be the ability to edit direct messages (DMs), according to information shared by an employee. However, the timeline for this feature's rollout remains uncertain.
The platform recently initiated work on a function that enables users to disable links in replies to posts. This development is part of X's continued efforts to enhance user experience with more control over their interactions.
An X employee named Enrique mentioned that the platform would begin to develop the capability to edit DMs. This feature is anticipated to function similarly to those available on other social media apps like WhatsApp and Instagram, where users can edit sent messages within a certain timeframe.
When asked if the same functionality would be extended to replies, Enrique suggested a gradual approach. This was supported by a subsequent comment from Elon Musk. Currently, X allows posts and comments to be edited, but this feature is exclusive to X Premium subscribers. The editing of DMs, once implemented, raises the question of whether it will also be limited to premium users or made accessible to everyone.
Should the feature come to pass, it could assist users in correcting occasional typing errors in their direct messages. This improvement would align with X's ongoing goal of enhancing user communication.
Besides enhancing DMs, X is also reportedly working on other new features, such as a 'Dislike' button for iOS to downvote posts. This potential feature was hinted at through code references in the X app, suggesting a heartbroken emoji-style icon for dislikes. Similar functionality may also be introduced for replies, creating a Reddit-like system for grading posts and comments.
