Brandy Returns to Horror in A24’s The Front Room, Directed by The Eggers Brothers
After 26 years, Brandy returns to horror with a new A24 movie backed by the producers of The Lighthouse and The Witch. A24 has released the initial trailer for The Front Room, a psychological horror film starring Brandy.
According to the official logline, the movie narrates the tale of a young, newly pregnant couple who is compelled to take in an ailing estranged stepmother. In the brief clip, Brandy and her spouse, portrayed by Andrew Burnap, take in the troublesome stepmother, played by Kathryn Hunter. Hunter's chilling character violently impacts her own head against a table and accuses Brandy of the action. The scene cuts to a bizarre biblical sequence where she eerily holds Brandy's newborn child.
This film, based on Susan Hill's short story of the same name, is written and directed by Max and Sam Eggers. These brothers, who have produced The Witch and The Lighthouse, make their feature directorial debut with this film.
The Front Room is significant as it marks Brandy's first appearance in a horror film since 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, the sequel to the well-known '90s teen slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. Brandy initially appeared in feature films as Cinderella in the 1997 made-for-TV adaptation and is set to reprise this role in the latest installment of the popular made-for-TV Descendants series, titled The Descendants: Rise of Red.
The Front Room is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 6.
