Larian Studios Expresses Their Concerns About Receiving Mediocre Ratings for Baldur's Gate III
Baldur's Gate III has emerged as one of the leading games of the year, and has bagged the highest Metacritic score of 2023, putting it in line for being remembered as one of the finest ever RPGs, despite Larian Studios fearing it would not be well accepted.
Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios, confessed to the anxiety within the company prior to the game's release during an interview on the Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel.
"We were apprehensive that it would only score 6/10 or 7/10, that there might be a glitch, something unexpected might occur, it could malfunction, resulting in widespread dislike. That was truly our mindset going into this, even though we knew the content was solid."
"We were indeed scared of something going amiss, that was our biggest fear. Because it's a very comprehensive game, and we're aware that things can go wrong. But usually, the game has a knack for recovering well. We didn't anticipate such a positive outcome, we didn't expect the players would resonate so strongly with it."
While Baldur's Gate III does have some minor glitches, the high-quality content that Larian was confident about seemed to overshadow them. Moreover, every new update improves the game even further.
